Apple’s AirPlay 2 is coming to Sony TVs

Sony has announced at the Consumer Electronics Show 2019, currently underway in Las Vegas that it will be adding support for Apple’s AirPlay 2 feature to its televisions, despite the fact that Sony TVs run Android software.

In essence, Sony televisions will soon be able to support screen mirroring, play music and movies, and stream all kinds of other content from your iPhone, iPad and Mac via AirPlay 2. There will also be the added benefit of adding these televisions to HomeKit, which lets you easily and securely control smart home products using the Home app or by asking Siri on your Apple devices.

Sony isn’t the first television manufacturer to partner with Apple on this. Samsung signed on with AirPlay 2 support for its own TVs and also announced that it will be launching an iTunes movies and TV app in partnership with Apple. The HTC 10 was another Android device that included AirPlay support as a built-in feature.

Televisions set to receive AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support later this year include A9G OLED 4K and Z9G 8K LCD, as well the X950G Series.
